Jean Whitney
Education: Registered nurse with BS in Health Care Administration.
Certified in Occupational Health Nursing. Retired after 35 years in
nursing, her last position was with CompManagement, a workers
compensation claims management firm as the nurse case manager with a
claims team overseeing traumatic injuries. Prior to that, Jean
developed, marketed and administered Occupational Health Programs for
local Hospitals to serve business, industry and government
organizations. Her initial experience in Occupational Health began
shortly after OSHA laws were enacted. She served as the sole nurse at a
large steel plate manufacturing firm, Richmond Engineering Company,
responding to in-plant injuries, conducting medical surveillance
testing, absence management, health and safety teaching, and training
first aid teams . Jean's early nursing career began in a large
metropolitan hospital where she worked as a staff nurse on the
medical-surgical units, in the Emergency Department and on the IV
infusion team. She has been a member of Manakin Episcopal Church in
Powhatan, VA for 40 years where she has served in many roles, including
the Vestry, Chairman of the Outreach Committee and a long standing
active member of the committee, a member of ECW, the Long Range Planning
Committee, and as an Alto in the church choir. Jean has been
Manakin's project leader with its ministry for Holy Cross Anglican
School since its inception.
